Well, I'm going to go out on a limb right now and right here and say that I think the "PAINT SISTERS" sound much better in person than they did on their CD! (Although their CD is excellent, too) They put on an awesome show at THE PURPLE HOUSE CONCERT Saturday night. Jill Sissel, 'sizzles' on guitar! (maybe that's where she got her name?) Liz did a drum solo which we were sure they use as 'foreplay' at home, nevertheless..or maybe that IS the reason she got a standing O when she was done with her solo.
Then, Melissa sounds so blue, I bet B.B. King is green!! They were definitely worth the effort it took to get there AND the admission! If you get a chance, I say you should definitely check them out. I also ran into Carol that night, we laughed as we reminisced about the days when we had our band called, "SILENT THUNDER". Kay even had the nerve to suggest that we get the band back together again, obviously she wasn't around for the days of practice!
My WARONWAR video has been in the finals for the last week!! Although, I am sad to admit that I am seriously lacking in the vote/comment department. If they use that for the final judgements...I'M DOOMED!! Sam Harris (the writer/performer) will be announcing the winner this week on EXTRA and again on The View. I spent the rest of my vacation TRYING to get my myspace set up. I KNOW you all will be glad to know that I am finally back on Myspace, where this time I am able to have some of my demos loaded on. I have it set up so my videos can be played on the profile page too, just think of all the fun you can have by dropping by!! myspace.com/valburke. Come see about me...(just like the SUPREME'S old song)
I now need a vacation FROM my vacation! Can you feel me? Also, I'm probably NOT going to make many friends with this statement, BUT ...GRACELAND IS OVERATED!! Yes, I said it!! I am sure that will not make everyone happy, but then again, consider the price of this tour, then consider what that includes and you do the math! Yes, it is interesting if you have never been, but you still need to have been some kind of fan. (Which I am, by the way) And, WHAT is up with that billiard room?? There is funky material on all the walls and the ceiling, interesting in a 'disturbing' way! The hall of gold records is amazing, I have to admit. I was very let down to see that they had redone the racquetball room (which he had spent more than $2,000 to build) into a trophy room.
OUTCENTRAL is still in need of volunteers, physically and monetarily. My roving reporter Renee checked out the scene yesterday and informed me they are planning to have a flat screen TV added where they will be able to show movies and videos. From what I am understanding this will allow locals a chance to show their own videos to an audience. Cool idea! If you would like to volunteer, check out outcentral.org.
This just in from Cathey Stamps:
"For those of you who may be interested, the new issue of Curve Magazine has it the newsstands and, sure enough, my article on our Nashville music scene is in there. Apparently someone on the staff felt the need to re-title it to be more prurient (From "Meet NashVegas" to "Naughty Nashville" ???) and to give some subtitle reference to Elvis (Don't they know that's Memphis!!??) Nonetheless, the article itself stayed fairly intact and mentions such favorites of ours, dear readers, as the Lipstick Lounge, Out on the Deck, Steff Mahan, Lindsey Hinkle, Wall of Jules, Edie Carey, the Ryman, Tribe, Girls with Guitars and the Nash Trash Tours. Maybe you guys could write in and ask Curve about that great new author they featured... Is that the Cathey Stamps that plays percussion, writes Nashville music updates, produces live shows, won the Lotto (well, unfortunately, you can skip the Lotto question). Check it out if you get the chance."
